After three years away, Rameka Tamaki returns to Pōneke with a special Ahikaea performance exploring his connection to Māoritanga.
Featuring classical and contemporary works alongside original compositions - including new music written especially for Te Ahikaea - Rameka brings his distinctive sound back to the city.
Rameka Tamaki (Tūhoe, Maniapoto, Samoan, Tongan, Ingarihi) is a Classically trained Guitarist from Aotearoa. With a vast repertoire he offers insight into this world while exploring contemporary performances in a modern context. Through mastery and dedication, sound and color come to life through the mini orchestra known as the classical guitar.
His recent projects include a collaboration with Activist and Artist Tame Iti at his exhibition ‘I Will Not Speak Maori’ in Te Upoko O te Ika a Māui, musical production alongside Laughton Kora as a part of the rock super group MAGMA for Mana Moana, and performed with the New Zealand Opera company in the Barber of Seville.
He has completed his Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours in Classical Guitar at Te Kōkī – The New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington.
Tamaki recently toured nationally across Aotearoa with the acclaimed production Waenga.
